The main function is to establish a reliable seal between the shaft and the equipment cavity, prevent medium (liquid, gas, or slurry) leakage, and prevent external impurities and air from entering the equipment interior, ensuring stable operation of the system under harsh conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, and high corrosion, and maintaining equipment pressure. The core of a mechanical seal lies in its sealing interface, where two highly polished surfaces slide relative to each other under the action of fluid pressure and elastic elements, forming tiny gaps to control the formation of a fluid film. This can make the mechanical seal highly reliable and have a long service life. Mechanical seal is an important component in reciprocating compressors.

Sealing usually needs to be carried out under difficult conditions, such as the presence of hazardous substances that may cause environmental problems if leaked to the outside, or the presence of high-temperature, high-pressure fluids that may cause accidents.
